You heard him, let's pay the man for Linux.

Tristan Sloughter has posted a blog post about how Steve Ballmer and Microsoft want to extort us Linux folk for the rights to use free software. In response, Tristan suggests we start a campaign of mailing monopoloy money to Steven Ballmer. I am definitely all for it! Only problem is, I am not just going to handover my hard earned Monopoly Money! Good Hasbro has PDF's on their site to print some out! I recommend printing the 500's. Just to make sure you pay enough to get Microsoft off your back.

You cant fight M$ by filling their mailbox.
The proper way to get back at them is to help out an open-source project. It can be as simple as writing documents, reporting small bugs, or helping improve the appearance or user interface (ideas only, not necessarily coding but giving suggestions) to projects that could use some help.

The way to get back at Microsoft is to get Linux to have better wifi support, a unified installer, and an improved GUI (Although thats come a long way now). If this could happen, Vista wouldn't stand a chance against Ubuntu.

There will not any "unified installer" on every distribution - with Linux you can choise wich distro you like, with Windozze - you couldn`t. Don`t try do Linux as "sort of Windozze".

Ubuntu is far more simple and clear now. Try to plug in vista-pc-box Wacom stuff or some audiocards (without drivers) or scanners and wonder!

Now look what you've done. People are going around sending mails to someone named Steven Balmer when they actually want to send mail to Steven Ballmer (note the spelling).

If there's someone named Balmer at Microsoft I bet he's pretty confused right now :-)

anonymous,

You are right, I fixed that. I copy and pasted the c/o from somewhere else without even thinking about it, which is totally my bad. If only I could fix the original digg post. But I am sure people(even MS) will figure it out.
